The Legend Of The Truth
SOULS: THE LEGEND OF THE TRUTH
“One’s soul’s treatment is the truth. If you think about it closely, lies edge you to lie again. Until you, your life, and your reality become a lie. Son, have you ever slept with a lie hanging from your thoughts? Your lips become heavy and your tongue itches at night.” Your Grace Fintan used to hear this from his father’s lips before falling asleep every night.
Diké, an ancient goddess, the goddess of justice always fighting for the right thing. One of her tears crossed worlds, oceans, lakes, and clouds; making entire nations rain for 60 days.
“Lies!” Claimed Diké. While staring at the curious being in front of her.
“What’s the lie in all of this?” Replied Brinis. The half-deity, Veritas’ child. “Tell me how could I lie if I, myself, am the child that comes from the truth?”
Diké, upset and frustrated, shouted. “Souls from two different worlds can’t be together.”
“Why’s this upsetting you so much Diké?” Carefully asked Brinis. Diké hasn’t been this angry in a while. Injustice will bother her, but not as much as our recent case. Crisis management is one of the requirements for the gods and goddesses to join the Major Council, and the goddess in front of him wasn’t being reasonable at all. “Should I remind you why you joined the Council?”
“You don’t need to.” Replied Diké, trying to calm down. “It’s not my problem that your mother wasn’t as prepared as me.” The goddess stayed a few seconds in silence and sadly added. “Truth is important, but what would you do without justice?”
“Is there something I should be aware of, Diké?” Brinis, who has been incorporated as an important member of the Major Council recently, knew Diké more than she knew. After all, he was the son of the truth.
“It can’t be helped, Brinis.” Sorrowfully, Diké stared into Brinis eyes. “There’s no second chance for the truth, just as there’s no second chance for justice when time has slipped away.”
Diké and Brinis, the justice and the truth. A god and a goddess from different worlds. Brinis, being the bastard son of Veritas. A son born from true love. A goddess and a commoner that couldn’t contain themselves. Diké, a full goddess, daughter of Zeus and Themis. Destined to take one of the highest ranks in the Major Council, dismissing Veritas, after her sinful act, from the Council. Taking her place as one of the decision makers.
Diké fell in love with Brinis.
Souls from different worlds can’t be together.
“Is this what you want, Diké?” Asked Brinis, his lover, his piece of heaven.
“Is there any other way?” Diké knew the answer. She didn’t want Brinis to go through this process. Being a half-deity meant losing his godly part and becoming an errant soul.
“I’m willing to lose everything for you, Diké.” Said Brinis determined. “Having a godly part in me is not something that would stop me from loving you.”
“What if it doesn’t work, Brinis?” Replied Diké nervously.
“Only by doing the right thing can we know.” Brinis is always right. “If we offer something fair in return, it would work.” His comforting smile made her feel safe. “And fairness is what you’re good at.” Added with a warm smile.
Diké, without saying a word, walked upon Brinis. Her arms were always looking for wrapping his waist. And his chest, with this half-human heart, pumping blood and life. Life that she was grateful for. Life that made her close her eyes the next night and ask the ancestors if she could use her only miracle. The miracle of love.
Offering Brini’s godly side and all of her gifts and immortality, Diké became human. Brini’s soul got lost in thousands of errant souls that are still looking for their unfulfilled miracles. Diké, with tears going down her face for the first and last time, offered one last deal to the ancient gods. And reciting her last words, a curse and blessing created a new world:
“Dreaming is dangerous, father. I once dreamt that I could love and fell for it. I think I loved, father. I loved once. Why can’t souls from different worlds be together? Who said that? And if I have to decide it myself, it is not fair.
Father, this is my last miracle. Dreams are dangerous, they should be protected from people who can’t lie. I was lied to. I was lied to by being told that love is not possible when love conquers all. I was lied to by making me use my one and only miracle for something that couldn’t be possible. Not even gods and goddesses seem to deserve love. Let the other worlds love each other. Let us all yield to love.
Father, protect the truth that is deep in the soul's dreams and let them love each other. If it is not done like this, my fury will take over this Truth Kingdom. For 60 days, souls will turn ice cold, and what someday looked up to the bright sun, will now turn into ash and dust. Until the true Descendant finds a new season for their inner world.”
